Emma Churchyard - Autumn
This was supposed to actually be a camera and flash lesson with a couple of new photographers but due to one reason or another - they couldn’t make it.
I didn’t want to let down Emma, the model for the session down as she had very kindly stepped in last minute. So i decided to carry on with the shoot and also stick with using flash for the entire session - which was the point of the tutorial.
I met Emma at a local woodland venue and we got to work straight away - utilising the long and golden coloured bushes and trees we shot with one Godox AD200 in a 60cm Softbox from Lencarta. I aimed to achieve a Rembrandt style light across the face where i could.`
Emma brought along a couple of different tops which allowed us to change the styling throughout the shoot and also picked great choices of outfits for the occasion.
Now i normally shoot with my trusted Sony 85mm 1.8 lens - A lens that for me is very sharp and when used wide open, gives a smooth and light toned image. And i started of using the 85 but i really wanted to try shooting some wider, almost environmental style portraits in this shoot, so i opted to use the Tamron 28-75mm 2.8 lens - a lens i bought for video predominantly and a lens that is super sharp wide open!
I am so glad i did change the lens, as i felt i managed to get some new favourite ways of shooting my portraits!
